Terms & conditions

Terms of Sale

Our fixed-price quotations cover all necessary materials and labor required for the professional installation of your chosen service. It is essential that your existing electrical installation is in good condition, has appropriate gas and water earth bonding, and features a 100A main fuse. If there are uncertainties about whether your installation meets these requirements, we can promptly assess this through photographs or a site survey. Please be aware that additional charges may apply if issues related to these criteria arise on the day of installation.

However, if there is a risk of significant delay, you have the option to contact us to terminate the contract and receive a refund for any payments made for undelivered services.

Installation Services

Our terms and conditions encompass the components of your standard installation and provide details regarding the process for quoting additional work if required. After you have placed your order and received an order confirmation, we will furnish you with a pre-installation questionnaire to fill out or, in some cases, arrange for a site survey. Once you’ve submitted the required information, and our team verifies that everything is in order, we will get in touch with you to coordinate the scheduling of your installation date.

There are instances where unforeseen issues may arise on the installation day that could prevent us from completing the installation during the initial visit. However, by addressing these issues in advance, we can often find solutions to ensure a smoother installation process. To ensure the best possible experience, kindly inform us if you anticipate any circumstances that might hinder the completion of your installation on the scheduled day. For instance, if there are any access-related challenges impacting the property, please bring them to our attention.

Please note that these standard installation packages are designed to cater to typical installations. For any specific requirements or variations, further discussion and quoting may be necessary.

Important Conditions and Limitations

When it comes to the installation of your EV, Solar or Electrical service there are specific conditions and limitations to keep in mind:

  • Location of EV Charger: Your EV charger must be situated in your designated off-street parking area and positioned at a height that prevents vehicle impact.
  • Cable Height: The cable cannot be fixed higher than 1.8 meters (6 feet) above the ground. If circumstances necessitate a higher placement, installation may need to be temporarily paused, and we will provide a quote for additional work if required.
  • Trenching and Cable Suspension: Our standard installation does not cover trenching the cable underground or suspending it above ground. If such arrangements are necessary, please inform us in advance so we can provide a quote. If we discover the need to cross a garden or pathway on the day of installation, we may need to pause and quote for the extra work required to trench the cable.
  • Safety and Cable Placement: During charger use, the EV charging cable must remain on your property and should not pose a trip hazard for you or others.
  • Charger Positioning: While our installers can offer advice on suitable locations, they are not responsible for the final positioning or the accuracy of any measurements provided by you.
  • Installer Safety: Our installers will not work in crawl spaces, on roofs, or in lofts if they deem it unsafe.
  • Extreme Weather: Our installers cannot work in extreme weather conditions such as high winds, intense heat, or heavy rain. If it is unsafe to continue, they will perform as much work as possible and return at a later date.
  • On-Site Presence: You or a responsible adult aged 18 or older must be present on-site for the entire duration of the installation. This presence is necessary to certify acceptance of the installation. Furthermore, you agree to provide safe, unobstructed access to the relevant parts of your property.
  • Solar Batteries and inverters are to be installed in a well ventilated area and are generally not suitable for installation within loft spaces
  • Scheduled Installation Date: Our provided installation date is an estimate. We will notify you in advance if we need to amend this date for any reason.
  • Solar Panel Substitution: We reserve the right to substitute specified solar panels with another brand of the same type and rating based on stock availability.

These conditions and limitations are essential to ensure a safe and effective installation process for your EV charger or Solar system.

Site Access and Rubbish

Access is to be provided at the installation address for parking of work vehicles. In areas with restricted parking, a permit is to be provided by the customer for the duration of the installation. Metered parking: If your area has metered parking, please inform us prior to installation, as additional costs may occur for these fees.

Failure to inform us of any parking restrictions may result in the cancellation of your installation date and rebooking fees being applied.

All rubbish from materials supplied by RMD Electrical & Renewables will be removed from the site. Any packaging from third parties, including materials supplied for our use, will be left bagged and tidy on-site for customer disposal.

Existing Wiring Not Meeting Standards

We adhere to the BS7671 Standard Regulations and NICEIC, MCS guidelines for our EV chargepoint and Solar installations. If, during the installation process, we find that your existing wiring doesn’t align with these regulations, your installation will be temporarily paused. In such cases, we will provide you with a quote for the necessary work to bring the installation in line with the required standards. The issuance of this quote is subject to the terms and conditions outlined here. If there are aspects of your property’s electrical arrangements that do not meet these standards or present safety concerns, we may also provide a quote to rectify these issues.

Inadequate Electrical Supply

Our ability to complete the installation depends on whether your electrical capacity, indicated by the main fuse, can accommodate the additional electrical demands of the charger. If your capacity is insufficient, we may explore options like de-rating the charger or temporarily pausing the installation until your electricity supplier upgrades your main fuse.

Appliance Safety During Installation

We want to ensure that your appliances are protected during the installation of your charger. While it’s rare, power interruptions or issues related to inadequate wiring can, on occasion, affect older or sensitive appliances like TVs or computers in your home. To mitigate these risks, we recommend unplugging or switching off these appliances at the socket before the installation begins. If you have concerns or questions about the safety of your appliances, don’t hesitate to ask your installer for advice before commencing the installation. Additionally, you can seek guidance from your local grid network operator on safeguarding your home appliances.

What to Check

Prior to booking your installation date the following need to be checked:

  • 100A Main Fuse: Ensure that your 100A main fuse, located before your electric meter, is in proper working order.
  • Main Protective Bonding Conductors: Verify that the green/yellow earth cable, connecting your consumer unit to your water stopcock, gas meter, and, in some cases, structural steel, oil, and lighting protection within your property, is intact and functioning as intended.
  • Spare Circuit Capacity: Ensure that there are available slots within your consumer unit to accommodate additional circuits required for Solar and EV installations.

Additional Works

On the installation date, if it is found that your electrical installation doesn’t meet the criteria or is not acceptable under BS7671, then additional work may be required. We can either rectify the issues if time permits at the rates detailed below in the “Schedule of Additional Charges” or provide you with a quote for the necessary work.

Cooling Off Period and Order Cancellation

Your Right to Cancel: Upon making a purchase, you have a 30-day “cooling off period” during which you can cancel your order without providing a reason. This period starts from the date you accept our fixed price or quote and lasts for 30 days. This right to cancel doesn’t affect your ability to cancel your order before the cooling-off period begins.

To cancel your order, please contact us via email or phone using the provided contact details. If you decide to cancel the contract during this cooling-off period, we will refund any payments you’ve made as soon as possible after you notify us of your cancellation. If you’ve received materials but they haven’t been installed, we will refund your payment once we’ve received the returned materials back from you.

Material Returns: In the event of cancellation, if you’ve already received materials, you must return them to us within 14 days of notifying us of your cancellation. The materials must be in new and unused condition and in their original packaging. You are responsible for the materials while they are in your possession. Unless the materials are faulty or mis-described, you are responsible for the cost of returning them to us or arranging for their collection.

Installed Materials: If the materials have already been installed, you will be responsible for the costs associated with removing and returning the charger to us. You may also be responsible for any installation costs (refer to the “Services performed during the cooling off period” section below).

Refunds: All refunds will be processed by crediting the same card used for the payment. Returns of Solar Panels, Batteries, and Inverters: Returns of solar panels, batteries, and inverters must be arranged through our stockists and will involve a collection and restocking fee determined by the retailer at the time of the request.

Retention of Materials: If you choose to retain any materials or if damages are found, you will be charged for the respective materials.

Cancellation After Installation Services Begin: If you decide to cancel the contract during the cooling-off period but after or during the installation of your services:

  • If installation services haven’t been fully completed, we may charge you for the services performed up to the point you requested cancellation.
  • If installation services have been fully performed, you won’t have the right to cancel those services, and you will be responsible for the associated installation costs.

In both cases, you can still cancel your order and receive a refund, but you will be liable for some or all of the installation costs as detailed above. Additionally, we may deduct reasonable amounts from any refund to account for any diminished value of materials due to installation or use.

Rescheduling Your Installation Date

You have the option to reschedule your installation date, but we require a minimum of 2 working days’ notice if you wish to do so. Failing to provide at least 2 working days’ notice may result in an additional fee, as outlined in our “Schedule of Additional Charges” below. To reschedule your appointment, please reach out to us using the contact information provided above.

We kindly request that you schedule the installation of your service within 30 days from the date of your order and payment. If you have not confirmed your installation date within this timeframe, and as a result, we are unable to complete your installation within this period, we retain the right to take one of the following actions:

  • Price Adjustment: Increase the price of your installation according to our prevailing rates at that time.
  • Order Cancellation: Cancel your order and, if you’ve directly paid for the service, refund your payment. Additionally, we may impose an administration charge, as specified in our “Schedule of Additional Charges” below, along with any extraordinary or unforeseen expenses we have reasonably incurred in managing your order up to the point of cancellation. If possible, we will deduct these amounts from the payment you’ve already
made for your order and issue a refund for any surplus amount.

Warranties & Guarantees

Our 5-Year Warranty – Repairs and Maintenance: Our warranty provides coverage for up to 5 years. If our installation is determined to be faulty, unsafe, or non-compliant with BS7671 at the time of installation, we will rectify the issue at no additional charge. However, please be aware of the following conditions:

  • If, upon further inspection, it is discovered that a third party has tampered with or damaged any part of our installation, this warranty will become void, and the cost of investigation and repair will be your responsibility.
  • Materials, including EV chargepoints, Solar inverters, and solar panels, are covered by the manufacturer’s standard warranty. Faulty items within the warranty period will be replaced at no cost. For items that have exceeded their warranty period, any necessary repairs will be subject to an agreed-upon rate.

What Our Warranty Does Not Cover: Our warranty does not cover:

  • Any defects or issues arising from improper use or maintenance of the installation.
  • Alterations, modifications, or repairs carried out by third parties without our prior written consent.
  • Damage resulting from circumstances beyond our control, such as natural disasters or acts of vandalism.
  • Costs incurred due to loss of income or loss of use, including any inconvenience experienced during the repair or replacement of faulty equipment.
  • Any consequential loss or damage arising from a faulty installation or faulty materials.

Extension of Warranty: You may have the option to extend your warranty. Please contact us to discuss your requirements and obtain a quote for an extended warranty. Schedule of Additional Charges

Additional charges may apply in the following situations:

  • Rescheduling Installation Date with Less than 2 Working Days’ Notice: £90 fee.
  • Parking and Metered Parking Charges: In areas with restricted parking or metered parking, where a permit is not provided by the customer, we will pass on any charges incurred for parking and metered parking to the customer.
  • Materials Retained by Customer: Charges for retained materials.
  • Additional Work Required on the Installation Date: Costs for additional work required due to unforeseen circumstances or non-compliance with regulations. Charges will be provided in the form of a quote before the work is undertaken.
  • Cancellation After Installation Services Begin: Charges associated with installation services already performed, which may include the cost of materials and labor.
  • Order Cancellation Within 30 Days: Administrative charge of £100 along with any extraordinary or unforeseen expenses reasonably incurred in managing your order up to the point of cancellation.
  • Order Cancellation After 30 Days: Administrative charge of £100, along with any extraordinary or unforeseen expenses reasonably incurred in managing your order up to the point of cancellation. If installation services have been partially or fully completed, charges for those services may also apply.

Please note that additional charges will be itemized and communicated to you in writing, and your agreement will be sought before any additional work or expenses are incurred. We aim to be transparent and fair in our pricing and charges.
